About StringKick Games
StringKick Games is a set fun, browser-based guitar games that build the skills you actually use when you play: fretboard fluency, practical music theory and ear training. They run on your phone, tablet or computer, so it's easy to fit in a few focused minutes of training a day. It's like Duolingo for guitar.
Here's how it works:
• Real guitar practice when you want it: the app listens to what you play and gives instant feedback, so you learn faster and correct mistakes straight away.
• Tap the on-screen fretboard when you don't have a guitar around.
• All the skills are broken up into levels that slowly become more challenging to keep you engaged and you always know what to do next to improve.
These guitar games are for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of the fretboard, no matter your level. You might be a beginner first learning the fretboard, or a more advanced player wanting to fill gaps in your knowledge. Difficulty scales automatically and you can focus on the specific skills you want to improve.
You've got three options:
• Learning Paths: step-by-step levels that gradually train a skill.
• Custom Quizzes: set up your own exercises to focus on something specific (like strings, frets, or intervals).
• Test Sessions: measure your skills and get a 0–100 score.
This way you can follow a guided path, zoom in anything you need, or check how far you've come.
Not at all! Many of these guitar games work great with just your phone or computer: you can tap the fretboard on screen or use your computer keyboard. This is perfect for lunch breaks, commutes, or any time you want to squeeze in some practice but don't have your guitar handy. When you do have your guitar, the app listens to what you play for even better skill building. The flexibility means you can practice anywhere, anytime, so you don't have to wait for the perfect conditions to put in some practice.
The short answer: just 5-10 minutes a day will get you great results.
The long answer: the science of learning shows that how you practice matters more than how long you practice. StringKick Games uses two key principles that make short sessions incredibly effective:
1. Spaced repetition
Research shows that practicing a little bit each day is far better for memory than cramming everything into long sessions. Your brain consolidates skills between practice sessions, so daily 5-minute sessions actually build stronger memories than weekly hour-long sessions.
2. Deliberate practice with immediate feedback
Every answer gets instant feedback, so you know immediately if you're right or wrong and can adjust accordingly. This focused attention creates faster learning than passive repetition.
The result? Five minutes of this kind of targeted practice builds stronger neural pathways than an hour of unfocused traditional drilling. Most people find they naturally want to play longer once they get started, but there's no pressure. Consistency beats duration every time.
No. The audio stays on your device and isn't recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The app only listens for pitch so it can tell you if you played the right note.
